April 1944. The Germans are losing on all fronts, which makes the tide of the war begin to reverse. Bronek and Janek, who are active in one of the partisan units in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, carry out an attack on a German military police station. Major Krawiec, their commander from Warsaw times, unexpectedly shows up in the camp. He orders them to return, because after the wave of recent arrests they are needed again in the capital. In Warsaw, Bronek and Janek meet their loved ones, Lena and Wanda. They are preparing to assassinate the head of the Gestapo, Peter Schoebbel, who is famous for his exceptional cruelty.
