Many fans have waited longingly for this: 30 years after the end of Group B, Helmut Deimel has set a monument to the wildest and most unbridled era of rallying. „Group B – The ride on the fireball” focuses on the spectacular action of the more than 500 hp machines and highlights the rapid development of the years 1983 to 1986 in the inimitable style of the Austrian.
The chronology of the events is always spoiled by thematic excursions like the failure of high-tech in Africa, the peak storm at Pikes Peak or a view of the planned group S. In addition to the action on the evaluations, Deimel also dealt with the technique and the main actors of those Time. From Walter Röhrl and Ari Vatanen, through the four Group B world champions to the team bosses Jean Todt and Cesare Fiorio – Deimel has spoken for his tribute to this era with all the important protagonists.
Although the 100-minute film also deals with the tragic accidents at the group B time, fascination is at the forefront. „The ride on the fireball” is not a blood-surge. It is a rally film that goes under the skin. Helmut Deimel throws a few stones behind his group, but a whole lot of roses.
